Superabrasives specialist Engis has launched a range of Dia-ForZ diamond-plated grinding wheels, specifically designed for foundry applications, in the UK.
These wheels are claimed to offer significant advantages over conventional resin bonded abrasive wheels, including; firstly, increased safety - because the wheel body will not fail, break or come apart due to abuse or over-speeding; secondly, more efficient cutting action – resulting in better ergonomics and therefore less fatigue; and thirdly, longer wheel life, - resulting in higher productivity and lower cost.
With Dia-ForZ wheels no dressing is required, as the grits are more fully exposed than in conventional wheels, and, because the wheel does not wear in the same way as a conventional wheel, there is no loss of form or peripheral speed and less dust is generated. As diamond stays sharper longer and cuts faster, less force is required to remove the imperfections on the casting, leading to enhanced productivity and ergonomics.
As an added benefit, Dia-ForZ wheels can be re-plated with new, fresh diamond abrasive, making it an environmentally friendly product, as there is less, if any, waste to dispose of. The Dia-ForZ range is available in a number of standard size wheels and burrs, for robotic and hand-grinding.
