The VM3224 linear-way VMC from Milltronics features a 38" × 24" table and X-Y-Z travels of 32" × 24" × 26". Its enclosure is designed with removable side doors for accessibility through the full saddle travel to accommodate long parts. Coolant and chip control are enhanced by the enclosure design featuring a single, integrated auger.
Machining accuracy is increased with 38 mm ballscrews that are stretched and anchored with triplex bearings on each end. This allows the axis to run faster and smoother while minimizing thermal expansion, according to the company. Cutting performance and material removal are said to be enhanced by the casting, which is designed for optimum rigidity as well as the standard 18/12-hp, 10,000-rpm Big Plus spindle. The machine has a cutting feed rate of 500 ipm (12.5 m/min.) and rapid traverse rate of 1,600 ipm (40 m/min.).
The VM3224 comes standard with linear roller ways, dual arm 24-pocket ATC, six-spigot flood coolant, 180 gallon coolant capacity and the company’s 8200 CNC. It is factory-ready for 1,000 psi through-spindle coolant and fourth-axis interface. The machine also features environmentally friendly automatic grease lubrication, which eliminates the need to capture oil that can contaminate parts and coolant, the company says. Machine options include a 15,000 rpm spindle, enclosure washdown, mist collection system, probes and tool setters.
